Turkish air force in major attack on Kurdish camps By Tolga Ozbek

The Turkish air force launched one of its largest ever strike missions on 16 December, sending more than 50 aircraft to take part in an attack on Kurdish rebel camps 150km (81nm) inside northern Iraq.

Flown from Diyarbakir and Malatya air bases, the night-time mission involved 30 Lockheed Martin F-16s equipped with Lockheed Lantirn targeting pods and 20 modernised McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantoms (file photo of both types below). Inflight refuelling support was provided by two Boeing KC-135 tankers.

Ankara says its fighters deployed 453kg (1,000lb) Mk82 and 907kg Mk84 bombs and Rafael AGM-142 Popeye air-to-surface missiles against PKK positions around Hakurk, the Kandil mountains and Shedan. The mission was supported by Turkish air force pilots conducting their first night vision goggle-equipped sorties since last June's "Anatolian Eagle" exercise in Konya.

17-08-2011 Starting 2000 local time, Turkish Air Force F-4E 2020s from 7th AJU (Ana Jet Ussu; Main Jet Base) in Malatya and F-16s from 8th AJU in Diyarbakir began bombing camps and installations of terrorist PKK in Northern Iraq. According to video footage taken near Diyarbakir AJU, CN-235EW ELINT/SIGINT aircraft are also supporting the strike.

According to initial news, the targets being hit are located in Qandil region, Zap and Betina in Northern Iraq.

30-11-2014

An Iranian McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II jet has struck Islamic State targets in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala, footage shot by regional media shows.

At least one F-4 is seen conducting a bombing run against ground targets in the footage shot by Al Jazeera , which erroneously identified the aircraft as an Iraqi fighter. Iran and Turkey are the only regional operators of the F-4, and the location of the incident not far from the Iranian border, and Turkey's unwillingness to get involved in the conflict militarily, indicate this to be an Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) aircraft.
